To be quite honest, there are literally thousands of health coaches out there. I would guess that a large majority of them promote the “weight loss = health” mentality, food rules, and utilize "before & after" weight loss pictures to demonstrate their clients' great results.
I would love to see pictures of those same clients, two or three years after their dieting ended. Despite the diet culture's propaganda that says you must be thin to be healthy, happy, and satisfied, research clearly indicates that there is no proven way to permanently lose weight for most people.
Propaganda is defined as information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular point of view.
Based on this definition of propaganda, can we agree that we have been victims of the diet cultures's misinformation campaign? I believe it is time to take back your power and reject the lies of the $60+ billion per year diet industry. They have no interest in the long-term success of their weight loss products--they want you to come back to them again and again and again for your weight loss needs.
While weight may be one component of health, it certainly doesn’t define the entire issue. Beyond weight, consider this:
DIETS DON’T WORK. Reflect on those three words for a few minutes.
I’m guessing you don’t need science to tell you that those words are true (science does confirm that well over 80% of those who lose weight regain it in 1-5 years). But you don’t need verification because you’ve lived it, it’s YOUR truth and how being overweight impacts your health concerns you, keeps you awake at night.
Maybe you’re considering another diet right now. Maybe you’ve just given up on health all together. Maybe you’re still trying to find answers that work. Maybe you feel shame, guilt, hopelessness, confusion, or like you’re a failure.
